"But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ...

...and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own, derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith...

...that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead."

November: Family

Introductory Letter August September October November December January February March April May

If you read a verse in the Bible that commanded you to swim to China, what would you do? We've already learned that obeying God is more important than even our own life. So what if you read a verse in the Bible that commands you to love your brother, and another that commands you to love your neighbor, and others that describe the great and selfless love required? Would you ever dare to become impatient or unkind toward those nearest you?

  • Your family members should be your closest friends.
  • No projects you have to accomplish are more important than loving your family members.
  • Yield all your time, possessions, and privileges to God, so you won't get upset when He allows your family members to use or abuse these things.
  • Be flexible to the needs of your family throughout the day.
  • Don't serve anyone outside of your family if your family has needs that you could meet.
  • Try to see situations from the perspective of your family members.
  • Make yourself the last, the littlest, and the least.
  • Readily confess your mistakes, and ask forgiveness when appropriate.
  • Give up any goals that you have for your family members.
  • Constantly be a Godly example to every member of your household, in every area of your life.
  • Give great honor to your parents.
  • Esteem your siblings as more important than yourself.
  • Praise your siblings.
  • Show love to your siblings in the ways that they desire.
  • Try to discern what your siblings want you to do for them, and take the initiative to do it joyfully.
  • Don't give orders to your siblings; if it's essential that you correct them, give a kind suggestion rather than a command.
  • When you're in a conflict with a sibling over something he needs to do right, it's more important that you show love to him than that he does it right.
  • Graciously accept your brothers' assistance with tasks like opening your door, getting your chair, and carrying heavy loads.
