"But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ...

...and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own, derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith...

...that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead."

January: Activities

Introductory Letter August September October November December January February March April May

  • We should choose to use all of our time in ways that please God, rather than choosing activities based on what pleases ourselves.
  • All of our time should be dedicated to God, without any "free time" reserved for ourselves.
  • The greatest joy comes from pleasing our Lord, rather than ourselves, with our time.
  • God gives us only enough time to do the things that He wants us to do. We should discover and pursue these activities.
  • God tells us to think on things which are true. Since we think about what we read or watch on film, we should make sure that this material is true, not fictitious.
  • We can follow Jesus' example of using parables to present spiritual truth.
  • God wants us to study His works, which we can do through reading biographies and other historical material.
  • Since the Bible is much more important than any other book, we should give daily priority to reading it.
  • The fast-paced action depicted in many films tends to dominate our thoughts. Therefore, we should limit our viewing of films to the level which allows us to bring each thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
  • There may be times when God would direct us to play a game, or pursue a recreational activity, to fulfill His purposes, which are higher than the game itself.
  • Every moment of our time on the computer should be used for God's purposes.
  • The purpose of music is not to gratify our own desires, but to worship God.
  • Music should glorify neither the composer, nor the performer, nor the listener, nor sin, but the Lord.
  • In order to choose music that pleases God, we should study the orderly way He designed music.
  • To be a good steward of the time and money which God has entrusted to us, it is wise to go shopping only when we need to purchase something, and when we go, to purchase only what we need or anticipate needing.
  • Not all available extracurricular activities are of equal eternal value; we should focus on what is excellent.
  • Physical exercise is valuable to the extent that it prepares our bodies for the Lord's service, as long as we give greater priority to spiritual preparation.
  • We should choose what food we eat based not on what tastes good, or what makes us feel or look good, but based on what God designed our bodies to consume.
  • The Bible says much about food, which is supported by scientific research, and which we should heed in our quest to please God with our eating habits.
  • Instead of using food processed with chemicals which God has not indicated that we should eat, a keeper at home can take the time necessary to prepare nutritious food for her family.
  • Food should not be a point of contention among Christians.
